On Thursday, July 14, 2011, it was announced that two-time Dancing with the Stars champ Mark Ballas received a Primetime Emmy nomination for “Best Choreography.” He is up against Mia Michaels, Stacey Tookey, Travis Wall, Mandy Jo Moore, as well as Tabitha and Napoleon Du’mo, all of which have choreographed their routines for So You Think You Can Dance.
Ballas is nominated for his work this season for choreographing the Jive, which he and partner Chelsea Kane danced to “I Write Sins Not Tragedies,” as well as the Slow Waltz and Viennese Waltz, the latter of which they danced to “Hedwig’s Theme,” from the Harry Potter series, which featured Ballas sporting his “sorting hat.” Kane and Ballas finished in third place on Season 12 of Dancing with the Stars.
He joins the company of fellow professional dancers Derek Hough, Chelsie Hightower, Tony Dovolani, Cheryl Burke, and Julianne Hough, all of which have garnered nominations for the “Best Choreography” Emmy award in previous years.
Congratulations to Mark Ballas on his deserving Emmy nod, and Broken Records Magazine wishes him much luck as he vies for the statuette on Sunday, September 18, 2011, when the 63rd annual Primetime Emmys will be telecast live on CBS at 8 PM EST from Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre.
