Broken Records Magazine chatted with American Idol 3rd Place Season 10 finalist Haley Reinhart prior to her Idols LIVE! concert at Nassau Coliseum, Long Island.

Haley notes that her biggest musical influences include Corinne Bailey Rae, and Esperanza Spalding. “There are a lot of leading ladies out there that I really like,” she acknowledges.

On performing with her father on the American Idol stage, who played guitar for her on the Zeppelin classic “What Is and What Should Never Be,” Haley exclaims “that was awesome! I am still getting so much great feedback from all the fans about that. It’s such a great memory that both of us are going to have forever.”

Regarding her favorite song that she performed on Season 10, Haley states, “that would have to be one of them. I got permission from Led Zeppelin, so that was a dream come true in the first place. Secondly, to get my dad up there on such short notice was a blast. It couldn’t get much better than that.”

While Haley was in the Top 5, she performed the hit Lady Gaga ballad “You and I,” which was unreleased at the time. “I didn’t even know what I was getting myself into. I didn’t even hear the song. Jimmy Iovine showed it to me, which was very cool to have somebody of that stature just handing this over to me, and then I asked her myself and she agreed. It was an exciting thing”; moreover, pop queen Lady Gaga was one of the guest mentors for this season of Idol. On being mentored by Gaga, Haley says, “she was awesome. She had nothing but nice things to say. She really was down-to-earth and cool.”

Particularly impressive about Haley is that she is signed to Interscope Records, and is part of Lady Gaga’s record label. “It’s wonderful and I am starting to do some recording, and figuring out what producers and writers to get along with. It’s a very fun process,” Haley adds.

Haley notes that her forthcoming album is slated to have a bluesy-sultry, organic vibe.

For her fans, Haley states, “thanks for rooting for me still. I’ve met so many dedicated fans out there, and I really appreciate all the love and dedication that you’ve brought to each show. Check out my new album!”

When asked about her dream duet choices, Haley reveals that they would be Paul McCartney and Corinne Bailey Rae.

For Haley Reinhart, the word success means “looking out there and reaching for the top. I feel that I have been escalating my way there. I feel that I’ve achieved it.”
