Broken Records Magazine’s Markos Papadatos catches up with the extremely talented singer-songwriter Dion Roy on Friday, November 18, 2011, at Gramercy Theatre, NYC.

On performing for the 2011 “Rock the Schools,” Dion Roy remarks, “it was amazing! The set, sound and crowd were amazing and I was really happy to be a part of this night. It’s a really good feeling.”

“While I was in high school, I really got into music doing choir, so I was sold.”

On working with Ms. Alaina Bendi, the partner of the BTF concerts, Dion underscores, “she’s the sweetest girl. She’s a pro and she knows what she’s doing, and she’s been awesome to me. I couldn’t have asked for a better venue!”

This evening, Dion will be sharing the stage with such artists as Val Emmich, Tyler Hilton, Ryan Cabrera and Bryan Greenberg. “It’s fun. I’ve toured with Tyler and I’ve played with Ryan a bunch of times. They are all good guys, and all good musicians. It’s awesome.”

Dion performed several songs tonight off his latest EP “Welcome Home,” such as “Ocean” and “Leave Me Out of This.”

Regarding his latest EP, Dion states, “I recorded the album out in California, and Tyler sang backup on ‘This Moment is Mine,’ and I liked it.”

Although Tyler did not join him onstage for the backing vocals on “This Moment is Mine,” Dion was pleased since “we had the whole audience doing the harmonies tonight!”

When asked which song is his most personal to him, Dion reveals, “as of yesterday, it was ‘Hear Me Out.’ Today, it’s ‘Hey My Love,’ which is my new single that came out today on iTunes.”

“Basically Fan Rank keeps track of the fans that are the most out there and the most engaged and it keeps track of them. Last month’s contest was to take a fan out to dinner. She’s in Boston, but it’ll happen,” he acknowledges.

On his future plans, “I am going to be writing all the time, and I have a show on December 10 at Rockwood Music Hall with Josiah Leming from American Idol.”

Dion Roy notes that if he weren’t a musician he would have loved to write cartoons.

“I value my fans and I am pretty accessible to them. I try to get back to as many as I can. I love them and I appreciate my fans very much,” Dion Roy shares.
